Here's some information about our school:
-We have five related arts: Physical Education (PE), Art, Music, Library, and Maker Space. "Maker Space" is where we create, build, use technology, and collaborate. We go to PE twice a week.
-We have two playgrounds, one is in the front of the school and one is in the back. One is just for the preschoolers and the other is for everyone else.
-SMS is our school nickname. The whole school mascot is the wolves.
-Our teachers are really nice :)
-We have students in preschool all the way up to 5th grade. There are about 600 students at our school, with 5 or 6 classrooms per grade level.
-There is a trail from our school that goes to Stratham Hill Park. Stratham Hill park has a lot of hiking and biking trails (one leads to a fire tower!), picnic tables, a playground, and sports fields.
-For your birthday, our principal Mr. Fosher, comes and sings you a special birthday song (he knows over 30 songs!)
-Mr. Goldsmith is our assistant principal. Both our principals are very nice.
-We have "Fab 5" everyday where 5 students are recognized over the announcements for their great work.
-Our school day starts at 8:25 and goes until 2:55. We start our day with some morning work, then have a whole class morning meeting. After that we do math, have snack, word study, then reader's workshop. At 12:00 we have recess and then go to lunch. When we come in, we do read aloud, writer's workshop, then science or social studies. We end our day with our related art activity.
We look forward to learning about YOUR school! Let us know if you have any questions!
Love,
Mrs. Healey's 2nd Grade Class

Hello Mrs. Healey's Grade 2 Class!! We are the grade 2 and 3 class from Markham Gateway Public School in Markham, Ontario, Canada. We are a 40 minute drive north of
ReplyDeleteOur entire school, about 500 students, shares a mascot. We are the Titans. Four years ago, the students made up a school song that we sing at school assemblies. Our school begins at Kindergarten all the way up to grade 8.
We were so thrilled to hear from you. There are 20 of us in the class (9 grade 3s and 11 grade 2s). We noticed that in the USA, you say "2nd graders", but in Canada we say "Grade 2 students". As we were reading all about your class and your school, Robin, one of our grade 3 students, noticed that we could make a Venn Diagram to find all the things we have in common and all the differences.
Our school begins at 8:20 a.m. and finishes at 2:50 p.m. We begin our day with Literacy activities, Reading and Writing. Then we get a morning snack break followed by a 30 minute recess. After that, we have math and by 12:10 p.m. we are ready to eat lunch. Our brains get tired! After eating, we go outside for our 40 minute lunch recess. In the afternoon, we will sometimes have Drama, Phys. Ed (twice a week), Art (once a week), Media Literacy. Dance and Health is once a week.
We have a principal, Mr. Young. We have a vice-principal, Mr. Chin. Both of our principals are new to the school. Mr. Young loves sports. We are looking forward to learning more about Mr. Chin. When it is a student's birthday, it is announced during the morning announcements. At our school, the grade 8 students can sign up to be the morning announcers. On your birthday, students can go to the office and get a prize. It is usually a pencil.
We super excited to get started with our blogging and the use of our school Chromebooks!
Smiles and chuckles,
Mrs. Ranta's Grade 2 and 3 class!
